GROWING DAHLIAS
The American Dahlia Society – a page describing the Fundamentals of Growing Dahlias. The Mid Island Dahlia Society of Long Island – their Learning Center contains articles about the steps involved at different stages of the growing season. The Colorado Dahlia Society – their Dahlia Culture section provides topic specific articles. There are numerous other sites which offer informative articles – a simple search for a topic such as “growing dahlias” will quickly provide you with an extensive list. The links above are just a starting point. Most of the methods described in the above listed articles are discussed at our meetings. Please join us. We encourage dahlia enthusiasts to join us regardless of experience. We can learn from each other, even from the questions of others.
If you attend our meetings you will find that there are many differing opinions concerning methods which may be used at each step in the cycle of growing dahlias, especially in the areas of digging them up in the fall and storing them over the winter months. Rather than trying to describe here all the different methods, we are providing links to pre-existing descriptions already available on the web at different dahlia society websites. Each of us in the Dahlia Society has chosen methods which seem to work best for us as individuals, although we may have changed methods at times to see if something different works better.
